I posted this last Friday on First Read - and am still looking for some answers...

There was an over abundant amount of hate & lewdness that passed through whatever filters are in place! Calling for the death of the President or any other elected official for that matter is unacceptable…PERIOD!!!

My question is to the First Read Moderators, are you going to allow First Read to continue to lower your standards and eventually turn into every other ‘rag’ blog out there?

Or are you going to address the situation before it gets further out of control?

Remember, once the ‘genie’ leaves the bottle it’s impossible to put it back in!

I’m NOT talking about censorship, what I AM talking about is ‘US’ as contributors ‘policing’ this community and keeping it thee best place on the web for political discourse?

Us ‘old timers’ keep coming back for a reason you know!

As I’ve mentioned previously – I have a pretty high tolerance & can dish it out as well as take it! After all politics IS a contact sport!

Having said that, can someone please answer these questions so we can keep the high standards of FR we have all become accustomed to?

How does a post get collapsed by the community? It’s been rumored that high quality comments (70 votes or better) have been collapsed…

When someone is ‘flagged’ for either advertising – inflammatory or of no value is that picked up by the computer or a real ‘live’ person? If so what happens if anything?

What criteria has to be met in order for a post to be deleted?

Is it possible for a poster to be banned & if so are they notified and or warned prior?

I ask these questions because there is a lot of talent here on FR and I believe that if there is ONE thing we can all agree upon is that we want to maintain the decorum we’ve all come to expect here @ FR!

Okay… I’ll step off my soapbox now and pass out some popcorn!

Too little, too late! Mr. Obama is out of touch with all of us, I recall 'let them eat cake' as I watch the news... many voted for change and all that we got was the cookie monster.

It's now time to VOTE FOR A REAL CHANGE!!

There has been a lot of real change. and he didn't start the stimulus, Bush did with no control of the businesses that got it. President Obama when given it out put restrictions on it some of them are being paid back . Saw a list yesterday. Everything he has done he has had to fight the party of NO and that is what they called themselves. Our country needs to work together. That would be a big change. We also need to get along with the rest of the world, President is not out of touch with the rest of the country, but working very hard to get jobs and they have been improving, educate the children so when they graduate from high school they can read and write and go to higher education. There are people benefiting from the Health care law that has been phased in. Instead of just rattling along some of the people need to go into the Gov. web. site and see what has been done and how much. Quit just thinking party lines and work together.By the way I do not belong to any party but take the best from both, not lies or half truths. Do some investigating on their own. Now Ill get off my soap box. Have a good dAy.

I suppose it is total frustration. Obama didn't cause our problems, but has not contributed to alleviating them. Rather than approach our problems realistically, he gathered around him incompetent people. No sooner was he is office that he started a bailout, a stimlus and the healthcare. We didn't have a chance to take a breath. He welcomed the president of Mexico, he filed a lawsuit against AZ and he rallied with the Muslims in N.Y. He is a disappointment. He is President of the United States not President of the World! Did I say.....he spends too much?

I am so sorry to hear both of your's complaints... !

Having said that... do I agree with everthing President Obama has done.. uhhh NOOOO.... am I READY to give back the right wing majority... I say HELL NO!

I am not a happy camper in any stretch of my imagination... but I REFUSE to give the keys back to the drunk drivers...

Change my freinds take time.. and let's not judge someone or something to quickly shall we?

Let's all TAKE A DEEP BREATH and give the man a chance.... look at the alternatives...

Please DO NOT lose the focus...

I DON'T care who you vote for at this point... but PLEASE get OUT AND VOTE!

You must be very paranoid to delete this comment....this is like this liberal media who only print their version

"We did and the majority have spoken...we couldn't afford another 2 years with the Democrats that were in there (along with a few Republicans). When you can justify having that corrupt Rangel (who was found guilty today by his peers) for 40 years, you can imagine how terrified we are of having Obama for 2 more!!!" - why are you scared of this comment, it is just a statement, not an attack of any kind, ewpecially given your post above...you state you don't want this kind of action, but yet you do it. just trying to state another opinion.

Presidents don't change policy. They continue down the same course as their predecessor. Voting is, and will remain, the supreme act of futility until we disrupt the two party system and vote in some "down home" candidates. People who hold some type of values, whether it is one that we agree with or not.

The current and past (recent) presidents have no true "platform." They stand on whatever surface allows them the most flexibility. And sadly, our best and brightest continually bolster this practice by making cerebral statements like, "VOTE!"

If you want change then vote for the person that lives closest to your home in all primaries. I bet middle America would finally get a president that understands, at least a little.

No Bob... not paranoid in the least!

This however is my space and I'm not a big fan of garbage & clutter!

You're right though... I shouldn't have deleted it and will let this one stand!

I'll just make sure to hold my nose as I scroll by! ;0)

Fair enough, I will mail you a clothes pin to make it easier:o)...If I had helped to put this administration in power (thank God I didn't), I would feel frustrated at not having seen this debacle coming. There is no way you can expect a former Politician wtih less than 200 says in service to be elected and have the experience or knowledge to run the Country (or pick people who can, lets face it, it is the people behind the man that are actually figuring it all out). People voted on emotion, rather than logic. Of course having an option of McCain even scared me to death (he is almost as liberal as Obama, but at least not as Socialist). I went through the same anguish with the Bush administration (yes, I voted for him) so I have been there, believe me, but again, compared to Al Gore, I would have voted for anyone! Unfortunately, being the first black canidate caused everyone to become overcome with emotion. But then again, look at Charley Rangel, Maxine Waters, Roland Burress and William Jefferson..It just seems that there are no viable people out there at this time for either party. Enjoyed talking with you and enjoy your posts, even though we agree to disagree :o)!!!

Feisty

These are for the most part open forums, and yes, you can moderate.

But you have to take the good with the bad. If you have ever been to a town meeting you must have seen this.

At the top of the forum just copy the ground rules: say basic things like no profanity or threats or open alcohol : ) (all this is at the local town level for a reason, you should just use the standard handbook on conducting town meetings which is available to all in various forms online. It is time proven and approved by all political parties for decades.)

There is your answer. I am actually attending one today and if I remember I will see what generic one that they use.

But always say opposing viewpoints are welcome.

Otherwise, you can't suppress the other side's opinion or even an occasional emotional outburst. Weathering that is part of a successful debate.

It is also what sets us aside from North Korea and the long list of less than credible...err establishments.

Frankly, the opponents of tyranny are tired of being accused of behavior made patent by left wingers; what hypocrisy! The same people who say Palin is to blame for excessive rhetoric, slash her with despicable scurrilous pejorative, attacking even her children and supporters with ruthless hatred.

In a deliberate attempt to silence First Amendment rights, the narcissistic left insists anti-progressive speech is "hate speech," as if any criticism was a personal attack. They are deft at projecting their own mean spirit at ideological opponents. But their rhetoric today is strained with logic so convoluted and duplicitous it loses its credulity.

Those who dare to articulate that government is attempting to micromanage human lives are copiously smeared with ad hominem and personal attacks. The broad labels of "racist" absent evidence, the attribution of mental defects such as homo, Islamo or whatever "phobic" are applied in nothing less than a hypocritical bully tactic borne of arrogance.

This odious ploy is routinely used against the citizen who points out the repeated failure of their tyrannical and larcenous ideology. And, it is applied to those who indicate that the "individual" mandates necessary to collectivism assaults liberty and the freedom of all posterity.

Okie Bill

These stuffed shirt A$$holes talk like the AVERAGE government worker doesn't need their paycheck to pay mortgages, college tuition, etc. I am a contractor to the government and believe me, my paycheck will be gone FIRST.

Cry me a big old river, then ask me it I care about congresspersons or senators.
